DESIGN INTENT OF OSPF
The Internet working group that developed OSPF has studied many routing alternatives to get OSPF published as an operable specification. The process has taken several years, and John T. Moy who chairs the OSPF and MOSPF (multicast extensions of OSPF) Working Groups, provides an interesting and informative history of the development of OSPF [MOY98].[2] Like any complicated protocol, OSPF has gone though revisions in the basic design philosophy behind it. Figure 6-1 is used for this discussion.
