OSPF operates over broadcast or nonbroadcast networks. Examples of broadcast networks are Ethernet, token ring, and FDDI. Examples of nonbroadcast networks are X.25, Frame Relay, and ATM).[3] OSPF also operates over point-to-point links, in which there is no intervening network. Examples of point-to-point links are those that operate with PPP, and other variations of HDLC.
