ROUTE REFLECTORS
Another approach to combat the scaling problem is to configure the routers to support a route reflector. This operation means that all IBGP speakers do not have to be fully meshed. The approach is depicted in Figure 7-10. Router 2 is configured to be a route reflector, and assumes the responsibility for passing the routing information to a set (or one) of IBGP neighbors. When router 2 receives the routing information from router 1, it advertises the information to router 3. Router 3 then “reflects” the routing information to router 4. Thus, IBGP sessions between router 2 and router 4 are unnecessary.
