THE PNNI REFERENCE MODEL
Figure 9-1 illustrates the reference model for PNNI. On the network side, it is divided into three major areas of cell stream, NNI signaling, and the topology protocol. On the user side, it is divided into the cell stream, UNI signaling, and the management interface protocol. These operations are further divided into the components shown in the figure. The switching fabric is based on a cell technology switching elements. The call processing modules and signaling modules are based on the Q Series specifications, and the topology exchange, topology database, and route determination functions are based on shortest path route discovery technology, the subject of this chapter.
