It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
SUMMARY
This chapter has brought several protocols and concepts into the routing picture. These protocols and concepts are used in conjunction with the routing protocols to move a user's packet from one point to another. We learned that the media access control protocols (MAC) are a fundamental architecture of local area networks. And the logical link control (LLC) protocol resides above the MAC layer to enhance the “minimal” MAC operations.
We also learned that the routing tables, distributed at each node, are the glue that connects the many networks of the Internet together, and the Internet Protocol (IP) is used with the routing table at each node to decide how to handle (relay) the IP packet.
