People will appreciate a relationship that extends beyond the initial meet up and this is where mutual interest comes in. Not only does it make the current conversation more interesting, it allows the social engineer to put the target at an easier point to attack. For example, a Chief Security Officer (CSO) could mention in an annual meeting that the organization has been facing increased attacks. After the meeting, a social engineer could approach the senior employee and strike off a conversation and then midway bring up a topic that captures the interests of the CFO.
