When Bandler and Grinder came up with NLP, it was not as defined as it is now. Over time, it has received many contributions aimed at helping people understand the thinking models of humans. These were grouped into code. As time went by, Grinder faulted the initial code and decided to come up with a new code that was more focused on people's beliefs and how they could be changed. The new code focused on perceptions, techniques to overcome thought patterns, and how to change old habits. The new code also included states of a person's mind and perceptions of these states.
