Casting doubt
Another use of social engineering is to make the target reevaluate his or her beliefs, emotions, and awareness. It is a commonly used manipulation tactic by cults. Some of them have international recognition and use the same manipulation tactics wherever they spread to. Cults target a person's beliefs and thoroughly convince him or her that what they were told before is not true; their beliefs are wrong but the cult knows the correct path. They destabilize the already set up beliefs in the target and when the target is reevaluating, they implant theirs. Social engineers also borrow this tactic.
