Operation Double Scam
As a result of an 11-month investigation, 96 members of a scammer gang were captured by the police. They were accused of scamming 1.5 million euros in a wire fraud over two years.
In the beginning, scammers gathered the credentials (name, surname, phone number) of the victims who shopped and applied for car sweepstakes in specific shopping centers in Germany. Secondly, they made up a call center in Turkey with a so-called customer service representative (CSR). The CSRs were chosen carefully among Turkish people who had emigrated to Turkey from Germany, and who could speak German very well.
