Falsifying statements
In elicitation, the social engineer is aiming to get the interest of the target and anything goes, including deliberate false statements. When a false statement is made, an informed person will try to reach out to the social engineer and correct him or her. The informed person will be innocently trying to correct something wrong said by the social engineer. In reality, all the social engineer will have been waiting for is that response from a target. False statements are a quick way of invoking people to give out the factual statements. Those that are eager to correct normally want to appear intolerant of mistakes and more informed.
