WebLogic Server instances send messages to the following four destinations: the server log file, standard output, the domain log (through the Domain Log Broadcaster), and finally the memory buffer. You can configure message filtering, such as by specifying a threshold severity level of, say, WARNING, to control which messages go to each of these four locations. There are several loggers in a WebLogic Server instance, with the root logger being the main one. The first step in configuring message filtering is to create a message filter.
