Identify Desired Performance
Introduction
To improve performance we must first describe the desired per-
formance (i.e., results) that will guide our selection, design, and
development of performance technologies. The desired perform-
ance of an organization, division, project team, or even an individual
are characteristically very challenging to identify, define, and meas-
ure without a systematic process to focus your efforts. Goals such
as “working to be number one,” “on the cutting edge,” or “one step
ahead of the competition” can provide motivation, but they do not
offer clear and measurable objectives by which important decisions
can be made, measured, and evaluated.
