Printing Lists

After you spend all that time building lists in QuickBooks, you'll be happy to know that it's much easier to get those lists back out of the program. For instance, suppose you want to print a price list of all the items you sell. Or, you want a text file of your customer information to import into your email program. QuickBooks makes short work of printing your lists or turning them into files that you can use in other programs.

Blasting Out a Quick List

Here's the fastest way to produce a list, albeit one that doesn't give you any control over report appearance:

1. At the bottom of the list window, click the button that contains the list name, Vendor, for example, and then, in the shortcut menu, choose Print List..

   QuickBooks might display a message box telling you to try list reports if you want to customize or format your reports. That method is covered in the next section. For now, in the message box, click OK. The Print List dialog box opens.

2. If you want to print the list, choose the Printer option and choose the printer in the drop-down list. If you want to output the list to a file, choose the File option and then select the file format you want..

   You can create ASCII text files, comma-delimited files, or tab-delimited files. You can also specify printer settings, as you can in many other programs. Twist the report around into landscape or portrait orientation, choose the pages to print, and set the number of copies.

3. Click Print..

   That's it.
