Customizing the Shortcut List

The Icon Bar doesn't take up much room across the top of the QuickBooks window, but if you prefer a vertical list of your favorite features, use the Shortcut List instead. Like the Icon Bar, the Shortcut List is a collection of the windows you use all the time. But in the Shortcut List, windows and navigators come grouped by area. (If you look carefully, you'll notice that the headings for QuickBooks areas match the names of the Navigators that the program provides.)

Note

When you first install QuickBooks, it displays the Icon Bar and opens the Open Window List pane, which lists QuickBooks Navigators and all the windows that are open. If you customize the Shortcut List to include all the windows and Navigators you use, nix the Icon Bar (choose ViewIcon Bar to turn off the checkmark) and the Open Window List (choose ViewOpen Windows List) because they simply repeat what you have already in the Shortcut List.

To show the Shortcut List, choose ViewShortcut List. With the Shortcut List visible, choose ViewCustomize Shortcut List to add, remove, or rename entries in the list, as illustrated in Figure 22-3.

Tip

Choosing ViewShortcut List toggles the Shortcut List on and off. When the Shortcut List is visible, the Shortcut List menu entry includes a checkmark.

To remove a shortcut, in the Current Shortcut List box, select the entry and click Remove from Shortcut List. If you want the Shortcut List on the right side of the QuickBooks window, choose the Right option.Bottom: If you want to add a feature that doesn't appear in the "Select windows to add" list or a memorized report you've created, open the window you'd like to add to the Shortcut List. Then, at the bottom of the Shortcut List, click QuickAdd.
