Simplifying Complex Artwork
Even though today’s computers and current RIPs are significantly faster than their ancestors, there are still some benefits to eliminating complexity where possible. Pen paths with too many points can be lumpy and rough. And extraneous, empty points can result in incorrect boundaries for artwork, since the bounding box of an Illustrator file can be determined by the outermost points in the artwork (depending on how the file is saved, as well as how it’s imported into another application).
