To make a lower-resolution PDF from an existing PDF file, or to save for a previous version of Acrobat, use PDF Optimizer rather than going all the way back to the originating application and generating a new PDF. The PDF Optimizer also produces better results than the old-fashioned method of printing to PostScript from Acrobat and then using Distiller to process the new PostScript file—a process referred to as refrying.
