Once you’ve applied an effect to an object, use the Appearance panel to modify the effect rather than returning to the Effect menu to make the change. If you attempt to modify an effect by choosing the effect again from the Effects menu, an alert appears warning that if you continue, you’ll apply another instance of the effect.
To edit an effect, select the object and then open the Appearance panel (Window > Appearance). Click on the name of the effect to open the options dialog for that effect, and modify the settings (Figure 10.17).
