Cautions About Backsaving
It’s not ideal to collaborate with someone who isn’t using the same version of software that you are, but sometimes it’s unavoidable; this caveat is not limited to InDesign. Just be aware that some content created in InDesign CS4, such as cross-references or conditional text, won’t have an equivalent in CS3. While the trip through InDesign IDML should keep the content as regular text, these features are no longer “live” if the file is saved in CS3 and then reopened in CS4; cross-references no longer connect to their targets, and text conditions are no longer defined.
