As The Economist reports, “Women’s economic empowerment is arguably the biggest social change of our time” (The Economist 2010). Women in 2010 now represent half of the U.S. labor force in the United States and are slightly more than half of the managerial and professional labor force. However, women are still underrepresented in the largest American companies. Only 3 percent of the Fortune 500 CEOs are women. Women hold less than 16 percent of the board seats.
