Don’t pretend you can always control your emotions
It’s not always possible to emotionally disengage from difficult tasks such as lay-offs – the best you can do is manage how you deal with them.
What you need to know
Lay-offs, disciplinary matters, negative performance reviews and the like are part and parcel of the corporate world. Businesses would not be able to operate without these ‘necessary evils’ and many would claim that they are, in fact, ultimately beneficial – a bloated organisation can only prosper if it is ‘trimmed’ and redundancies made.
