It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

In 1962 the Russian psychologist and expert in the study of eye tracking, Alfred Yarbus, wrote that where we gaze during a task is ‘dependent not only on what is shown on the [thing facing us], but also on the problem facing the observer and the information that he hopes to gain [from that which he is observing]’. In other words, where we look is determined by where we expect to find things. So far, so obvious, but we rarely think through the practical implications of this.
