Later in this book, you will learn in-depth about buildpacks, but for now, we'll brieflydiscuss the process. Once an appropriate buildpack is associated with the application, it proceeds to package the buildpack, with the application source or binary on a target stack. A stack is a prebuilt root filesystem for a targeted supported OS. In this book, the stack is cflinuxfs2. For Windows, this will be Windows2012R2 or the upcoming Windows2016. This package is stored as an intermediate tarball droplet and a request to a Diego cell is made to start a container to begin a staging process.
