Port binding
The original 12-factor principle states that services should be exported via port binding. Basically, the container itself should not require the injection of a web server so that the application can be web facing. The application itself should hold the web service and bind to a given available port from the container. From a developer's perspective, it means being able to receive a port number, instantiate a web server from some web server library, and bind them together. However, given the nature of existing enterprise applications, this may not always be practicable and may still require some form of lightweight web server.
