A route serves to enable an addressable (URL) access to an application. A route consists of a hostname and a domain. A hostname is, by default, represented by the application name and the domain is an address that is assigned to an Org. With Routes and domains, it is possible to cleanly separate applications and organize them into Orgs, so that applications of a given domain exist together. We'll also explore other types of routes and domains and also how to map and unmap them later in this chapter.
