15.4 METHODS OF LIPOSOME PREPARATION
There are many methods to prepare liposomes. This review will discuss only some of
the commonly used methods. These include liposomes made by thin lm hydration,
reverse phase evaporation, freeze-drying, and proliposome methods.
15.4.1 THIN FILM HYDRATION METHOD
Conventional liposomes are made by using this method. The lipid phase (made of
phosphatidylcholine with or without cholesterol) is dissolved in an organic phase
(chloroform with or without methanol) in a round-bottomed ask. If a lipid-soluble
drug is to be included, this is dissolved in the organic phase.
