Slovic et al. (2002) described the aect heuristic’s impact on decision making as
follows. In the long-term, learning and strengthening for people, objects, and events
in real life will form corresponding images in people’s minds. All of the images are
tagged to varying degrees with aect, and a large amount of this aect forms an
“aect pool” in the brain. During the process of making a judgment or decision, the
exposure to external events will automatically activate the corresponding images, as
well as the emotions linked to the images, causing people to develop such emotional
