It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

CASE – behavioural objectives
The big picture
The SMART mnemonic is useful for setting task-based objectives but is a poor basis for behavioural objectives. The CASE mnemonic is designed specifically for setting behavioural objectives. CASE stands for:
- Context: what, specifically, have you observed the team member doing?
- Action: what action will the team member now take to remedy that behaviour?
- Standards: what organisational standards are you asking the team member to uphold?
- Evaluation: how will you agree to monitor the team member’s progress against the objective?
When to use it
Use CASE whenever you need something a little more powerful than one-to-one feedback to help a team member to rectify a behavioural issue.
