SHARED HOSTING CONSIDERATIONS
If you are using a shared web host for your Umbraco site, you will no doubt notice that most of the preceding troubleshooting tactics are not available to you. This makes your job of identifying the issue more difficult, but keep in mind that the issues are very likely the same even if the environment is not. Most hosts provide you with a control panel or dashboard to make changes to your website and database. Using these you can accomplish solutions discussed earlier.
Even if you are using a shared host for your Umbraco website, installing the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (full or Express version) locally on your PC is still advantageous because you'll find it invaluable when working with database issues. All hosts provide connection information to allow you to connect your Umbraco database remotely from your local PC.
