It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Capacity planning techniques may also be a part of the performance professional's job. Capacity planning involves answering “What if ?” questions such as:
What size system will be needed if fifty more users are added?
How will response time degrade if a new application is added to the system?
Will performance improve if the CPU is upgraded to a faster model?
Do I add an application server or upgrade an existing one?
Capacity planning is a complex activity that requires an intimate knowledge of the application and accurate measurements of system resource utilization related back to the business transactions.
