It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 11. Compiler Performance Tuning
One technique for improving performance in executable code is optimization at compile and link time. Compiler optimization creates machine code that is more efficient for each source file compiled. A source file is often referred to as a unit of compilation. Link time optimization can create more efficient programs because the scope of optimization spans multiple compilation units.
