7.3. System Partitioning

HP-UX systems provide extensive mechanisms for partitioning large servers into more workable pieces. Partitioning has become more important as large servers can be configured with increasing numbers of processors (CPUs). Partitioning has many benefits:

  • It allows a single server to be used by potentially different groups and for different tasks.

  • The resources in the server can be reconfigured to match the needs of the various users.

  • Having a single large server can help with maintenance costs compared to several small independent servers.
