It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
7.5. Global CPU Metrics
A variety of global metrics are available for identifying potential bottlenecks in the CPU.
7.5.1. Global CPU Saturation Metrics
The following metrics are useful in determining if the CPU is saturated and in what areas saturation is taking place. They are expressed as percentages of total CPU; that is, they add up to 100%. Abnormally high values may indicate potential problems. Most metrics are easily visible with glance.
% User— percentage of CPU consumed by processes in user mode
% Nice— percentage of CPU consumed by nice'd processes in user mode
% Nasty— percentage of CPU consumed by processes assigned a negative nice value
% Real-time— percentage of CPU consumed by real-time processes running in user mode
