Networks are an essential part of a cluster architecture. On HP-UX, clusters are either Serviceguard or Serviceguard Extension for RAC (SGeRAC) clusters. SGeRAC clusters support the Oracle Real Application Cluster™ (RAC) parallel database software.
There can be three kinds of networks used in a cluster:
Redundant networks connect the member nodes of the cluster together and are used to pass heartbeat messages between the member nodes and the cluster coordinator node
Networks (usually redundant) are used for clients to connect to the applications running on servers in the cluster
Special networks are used in an SGeRAC cluster that pass locks for data blocks among the nodes in the cluster
