7.9. Tuning CPU Bottlenecks
There are several ways to tune a CPU bottleneck:
Hardware solutions
Software solutions
Application optimization
Adjusting CPU-related operating system tuneable parameters
7.9.1. Hardware Solutions
The simplest solution may be to move to a faster CPU. This solution will help most but not all applications with CPU bottlenecks. Another strategy is to move work to other systems or create an nPartition by creating a client/server environment or by moving monolithic applications.
If the bottleneck is caused by increasing workload, the following strategies may help:
Upgrade to a CPU with a larger cache
Upgrade to a CPU with a larger TLB
Upgrade to an SMP system
Add a CPU in an SMP system
Remove CPUs to use fewer processors
