Puma has been available in the HP Performance Analysis Kit (HP PAK) since the release of HP-UX 10.0. Written by HP, puma replaced dpat and hpc at HP-UX 10.20. As of HP-UX 11i, puma is no longer supported. It monitors the program counter, the call/return stack, and other performance statistics to show where a program is spending most of its time. Data is stored in a file that can subsequently be viewed in a number of ways. In the following example, puma is run from the command line with the -invoke option against the sample program vanderbilt.
