Dimensions

We previously mentioned that facts and dimensions are essential pieces of any star schema. Dimensions, as opposed to facts, contain descriptive data that helps give context to the fact values.

In general, a fact is composed of foreign key fields and measure fields. On the other hand, a dimension in its simplest form will have a primary key and descriptive fields.

Think of dimensions as things that describe your business. Examples of this could be Products, Location or Geography, Customers, Organization, and so on.
