Why Use FreeBSD?
There are probably as many reasons to use FreeBSD as there are the number of people who use it. Perhaps the most obvious reason is that FreeBSD is free, and there are no expensive licensing fees. You can install a single copy of FreeBSD on as many computers as you want without paying a dime. There are also no “per-connection” or “per-user” fees for FreeBSD on a server, as there are for some commercial network operating systems.
