I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
A Brief History of FreeBSD and UNIX
The original UNIX operating system was developed at AT&T Bell Laboratories. Two men named Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie were the main driving forces behind UNIX.
The origins of UNIX can probably be traced to the spring of 1969. It was an offshoot of a largely unsuccessful effort by a conglomeration of companies to develop a time-sharing operating system. This operating system was called MULTICS. Although it was developed, it was never very successful.
UNIX was originally written in assembly language for the DEC PDP-7, and was then ported to the DEC PDP-11. Then, an entirely new language called “C” was written for the purpose of rewriting the UNIX operating system. The UNIX operating system was then rewritten ...
