It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Overview of the FTP Directory Structure
Unless you've enabled anonymous FTP logins, which we will discuss how to set up a little later, the file layout of the FTP server is very simple and integrated with the system in the same way that most other core services are. There are several configuration files in /etc, some of which do double duty as system-wide resource files used by other services. Individual users' home directories are considered part of the FTP server layout, since each authenticated user connects directly into his or her home directory.
