Checking Your Hardware
Before you begin the installation, you should have some information about your hardware available. Here is a list of the information that you should have:
Type of video card and amount of video RAM installed.
The manual for your monitor: You need to know the horizontal and vertical refresh rates for setting up X-Windows.
If you have a modem, the com port and IRQ it is using.
The type of mouse you have (serial, PS/2, or bus) and what port it uses.
If you have a network card, the address and IRQ it uses.
If you are connected to a network, the network information such as your hostname, IP address, DNS server, gateway, and such. If you are unsure, obtain these values from your network administrator.
