Partitioning a Hard Disk
Okay, now that all the background is out of the way, it's time to get down to the action. Adding a new disk to the system involves four steps: installing it, partitioning it, labeling it, and mounting it. Depending on whether you've gone with a SCSI or IDE disk, the installation procedure will vary. The installation instructions that come with the disk will help.
For the following examples, we'll be assuming you've installed a new 40GB IDE disk as the primary slave. The device name, as you'll recall from Chapter 9, will be /dev/ad1.
