One section is set apart by an innovative use of the
black-on-white motif. The middle of the magazine
houses the “Update” section, a news analysis of issues
surrounding travel or other countries. To give this sec-
tion a more serious tone and to invoke the look of
newsprint, designers surround the articles with black
rules of various weights.
“It’s the only section in the magazine that isn’t about
what to buy or where to shop,” Berry says. “It’s about
what’s happening in Lebanon, for example. [The black
rules are] an attempt to make it more newsy.”
