5. Character Design

The first part of your character-creation project will, of course, be preproduction. When building a character, preproduction is usually considered the design process. There are a lot of ways to design a character and each artist has a different method. In this chapter, you’ll explore one of the most common approaches that you can later adapt according to your skills. Some other methods will be noted so you can try them if they sound interesting to you.

You can use any medium to design your character: paper or digital. In this chapter, the whole process is carried out in a digital medium using digital painting software and a pen tablet, but of course you can use any other painting medium.
