Terminology

Notice the use of the words "transition" and "transitioning" in this chapter. There are other words that could be used, such as "migration," "upgrade," and so forth. However, Microsoft uses specific terminology for specific scenarios. As explained before, an upgrade is not possible with Exchange Server 2007. A migration, on the other hand, is the method used when moving from a non-Exchange messaging system to Exchange Server 2007. Microsoft reserves the word "transition" specifically for the scenario being discussed in this chapter—an upgrade from an earlier version of Exchange to Exchange Server 2007.
