Summary

This chapter described the counters that are important in measuring the performance of the four primary subsystems of a Windows server: disks, memory, network, and processor. It also examined the more important counters for the SMTP, OWA, and Unified Messaging activities. Regular monitoring of your Exchange servers can give you advance warning so that you can fix problems before they grow too big. This chapter also looked at two important tools for helping ensure that an Exchange server is ready to provide the kind of performance necessary for an intended user load—Jetstress and Load Generator. Use the information in this chapter to devise a regular monitoring strategy for your system.
