Exchange supports two kinds of stores, or individual mailbox (or public folder) databases in a storage group: a mailbox store for messages and a public folder store for public folder use. Each store is associated with its own database file but shares the storage group’s log files. You can’t create a store until you create a storage group. When you first install Exchange Server 2007, it creates a storage group named First Storage Group as well as a mailbox store and, if you indicated that you need to support legacy Outlook clients, a public folder store inside that storage group.
