Creating and Managing Public Folders in the Exchange Management Shell

In Exchange Server 2007, creating and managing public folders all happens within the Exchange Management Shell. The following sections describe the creating and management commands for working with public folders.

Creating a Public Folder

To create a new public folder in the root of the public folder tree on the closest mailbox server that has a public folder database, you use the New-PublicFolder cmdlet. To determine the closest server, Exchange Server 2007 first checks to see whether the local server is a mailbox server with a public folder database. If it is not, site costs are used to determine the closest mailbox server with a public folder database.
