
Understanding organisations
If you were asked to explain what organisations do, you would probably
respond with answers like ‘provide services’, ‘make things’ or ‘achieve
profit’ and you would not be wrong in any of these. Organisations are
essentially about results and every business, commercial or otherwise, has
a range of outcomes it wishes to achieve. These can be, depending upon
the nature of the entity, a combination of profit, financial security, satisfied
customers, delivering quality products and services and so on. Think of
your own organisation and you will quickly see that some or all of these
