How it works...
The third-party vendors' service definition registration process uses the NetX management plane API to enable bidirectional communication between the service VM management and the NSX manager. The service definition includes the URL for accessing the OVA/OVF/image URL and other supporting information, which NSX manager uses to perform the auto deployment of the service VM to a vSphere cluster.
After the service VM gets deployed and powered on, it will be connected to the ESXi and vSwitch via the NetX data plane API over Virtual Machine Communication Interface (VMCI) sockets. This can be seen from the Networking & Security | Service Definitions | Service Instances | Manage | Settings menu; the Transport should be VMCI:
