When creating a logical switch, you are required to select a transport zone for the scope of the logical switch. By selecting the Universal Transport Zone, you are creating a universal logical switch as opposed to a local logical switch if you were to select a local transport zone.
Once the creation of the logical switch has been executed, you will see a dvPortGroup created on all virtual distributed switches that are associated to the vSphere clusters that are participating in the Universal Transport Zone. This concept is the same as that explained in Chapter 2, Configuring VMware NSX Logical Switch Networks, for local transport zones.
